Homelite Portable Generators and Company Lines

Jun 10 2010

Homelite Consumer Products’ brand line is oriented around home and garden products for the private consumer – generators included. While this focus on residential power generators gives Homelite a relatively small share of the national – and international – power generator market, it also allows the company to bring consumers some of the best, most cost efficient small power generators currently available.

One of Homelite’s most popular older power generators – the LR4400 model – can be found online, used, for quite a bargain. Like most Homelite power generators, it is built on a Briggs & Stratton engine. Unfortunately, the generator’s low price also reflects some of the its downsides. The LR4400 can be uncomfortably noisy, difficult to start, and heavy. Thankfully, these problems do not plague other, newer models.

Despite their lack of commercial and industrial power generators, Homelite has a long and distinguished history in the invention and production of portable power generators: originally called the Home Electric Light Company, Homelite was founded by Charles H. Ferguson, after he developed gas-fuelled generator in 1921.

In addition to personal, Homelite portable generators, Homelite also manufactures and sells grass trimmers, grass blowers and chain saws.
